Science was definitely always my strong point from my first encounter with it in Elementary School. For some people, it came naturally, but for me, I fought for science to love me back. You know how people say, "I never studied for a test in High School?" Well, I wasn't one of those people. Any pre-med person knows how great the feeling is after you correctly solve a chemistry problem. Ah man, chemistry. Science is the one subject that I felt I could use to change the world. And it's true. Science allows for you to learn more about the oh-so-mysterious workings of the human body. Every complicated human body system, everything about gravity, everything about how your eyes are moving across the screen right now as you read this, and how the language centers in your brain are working with your hippocampus to processes this. Oh, science. So, for a high school student, all my friends knew how into the sciences I was, everyone knew I was an aspiring doctor, and so that was really great in terms of the support, us science people need.
While we're on the topic of friends, we can delve into friendships. Just remember, friends come and go, especially in High School. But don't think because you're going to be a doctor, you don't need friends, but rather your friends need you. Trust me, I learned that lesson over and over. It's just simply not true. My friends were my biggest supporters, and my biggest fans. And if you're like me, I always ran into trouble because I loved having friends, and people around me, and so, my message to you: High School is where you are introduced to balancing. So you love the sciences, and you also love to hang out with friends. Decisions, decisions, when you have an AP Chemistry exam the next day.
