Tom Peters once said “Leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders,” and for this very reason I became President of my Senior Class Council in High School. Since elementary school and every schooling thereafter I have been privileged to taking on the position as president of my classes. My being has molded into the “go-to” person, the helper, the student guidance counselor, the leader who is passionate about her role. Leadership has always been more than just a role to me—it is a lifestyle.
And so, my take-home message to you is to step out of your comfort zone, and take up a leadership role. Whether it be your High School's council, becoming captain of your Track and Field team, or leading a small community walk to raise money for Breast Cancer, do something. Leadership can take a variety of forms, and for that reason, dare to be different.
